Superstition is not What They Think

Superstition is not a thing to write simply about. There are some risks as you will be put in the category of old, conservative, uneducated, rustic, undeveloped, unscientific and so on if you believe in superstition. While on the other hand, there are educated, advanced, urban, developed, broadminded, scientific people who don't believe in superstition. Oxford Dictionary defines it as
"excessively credulous belief in and reverence for the supernatural".

But I have some questions- What if I experienced something unusual and scary regularly for a few months? Am I conservative, unscientific to experience knocks at my door at midnight? It was not my beliefs. I was the first one who had rejected the claim of having my door knocked. ( It used to produce a sound as if some human being from outside was knocking on my door) when my wife first told me. I presented my logic by searching the internet and saying it's the scientific reason that certain types of wood can produce sounds like being knocked. But my wife asked a more powerful and logical question - all the rooms' doors are of the same materials and these rooms are lying on both sides of our room but why does only our room produce the knocking sound? I had no answer. My room is inside the main door, it opens in the hall. For a few days the door stopped producing sounds. But after a few days, it continued. I tried to check who could be the one who knocked at my door, so whenever I heard a knock I quickly got up and instantly opened the door but found no one, not even an insect or mouse at my door was recorded in my mobile phone's camera. I had put the mobile phone in recording mode many times. Sometimes there was a powercut and other times it stopped for a few hours and my phone became hot because of continuously recording nothing important for so long. One day I got success in recording for about 40/45 minutes but could record only one knock.

Though disbelievers can doubt or claim that too saying that I myself knocked the door from inside to get attention or for fame or other motives. I made the video for 30/40 seconds because nobody wants to wait to see a closed door for 40/45 minutes. (I wish I could upload that clip in this blog. But the facility is not available so I uploaded only the screen shot here and the video in youtube.) Later I started hearing the sound of payal (which is similar to an anklet) as if a woman was walking in my house at midnight. Once I was called from outside my window at midnight by my Fua 's (sister of my father) voice who was in India that day. Once I felt someone jumping from one side to another side in my bed which I thought was my son but he was deeply asleep at midnight. My wife also had been experiencing a similar voice from outside. She had been claiming for a few years that there was someone on our roof which I had never believed. I went with lathi and torch many times on my roof at night, doubting some thieves. Later on the sound of some things being banged on my roof came. The shamans claim that these are the signs of some supernatural power targeting someone. It's a wind guided and sent by some witch to follow someone to harm or make us sick and to cause other types of harm. All the symptoms experienced by us are also experienced by others and they are also available in some YouTube channels.

There were times I myself wrote in the national newspaper that witches are myth, they don't exist. I also walked consciously about a kilometer or 1.5 km at midnight alone many times. I had always dismissed the existence of ghosts or any other supernatural power.

Now after my experience I don't mind being called superstitious. But who will decide the non-existence of supernatural powers? This is something like a football player teaching musicians. They apparently have different choices, different interests, and different professions. How can the footballer even comment or challenge the musician or not even the musician can claim anything about football unless they themselves have not played or watched closely. One should not talk about them whose language he doesn't know.

I had to consult an experienced shaman because just humming Hanuman Chalisa and pasting photos of Lord Hanuman at each door didn't stop it. I, who once thought myself atheist, had to follow shamans. It didn't stop even after the first meeting with shaman. I had to meet a few shamans many times to solve the problems.
Nature is vast, unlimited. Scientists are trying to understand it and have discovered and invented many tools and devices. But it is not that they could reject what they don't know. Their expertise is different but some shamans are also there with their own expertise.

When scientists use waves and rays for distant voices for radio, pictures for T.V. and x rays, telephone networks, internet etc then we easily believe. Rather they congratulate them but when the shaman, pundit etc. use these power of wave winds we reject it. By the way these shamans and pundits have been using these powers long and long before these scientists. Their ways and methods are different but they all are producing results. There are different methods of treatment of humans. Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Allopathy, Laughter Therapy, Physiotherapy, Acupressure, Acupuncture. They all differ from one another, it doesn't mean one should reject the other. In ancient stories there are many proofs. There are many books that have mentioned the existence of ghost, spirits. They all can't be wrong.

It is also true that some of these shamans can benefit the general public by spreading other types of superstition. But we are also suffering due to modern doctors, aren't we? All the doctors are not able to cure our disease successfully. We have been changing doctors too. They are also confusing us and taking our benefits.

Now if anybody comes to discuss and prove me superstitious or wrong, I will no more try to prove my points because I have realized that everything can't be proved. Experience differs individual to individual and disbelievers always disbelieve others. Some points are beyond logic.
